If youâre new here, hi. đ At Resource Guru, weâre a fully remote team building resource management software that helps keep your teamâs workloads balanced and your projects profitable. The Guru Gathering is our yearly company retreat, and this year it took place in Morocco.
Our incomparable Talent Guru, Imogen, pulled out all the stops to help us hit the goals of the Gathering:
- Alignment – The analogy we like to use is that we all want to be sailing the same ship in the right direction. At the Gathering, we discuss the coming year and lessons learned from the previous one
- Getting to know each other better – Weâre a distributed team, and while weâre tight-knit and openly share things about ourselves, thereâs a nice bonus in being able to shoot the breeze in person
- Changing perspective and refreshing – We champion remote working, but a change of scenery is good for the soul (thatâs also in our remote working guidelines, for the record)
- Getting some work done – Thatâs a given, but we experimented with a new format this year. More on that in a bit
Please enjoy a day-by-day blow-by-blow of the whole adventure.

Day 1 – Distinctly âMarrakeshâ moments
Scan the photos and youâll notice the team looks a little different to how it did in Madrid.Â

Bonus: no one blinked!
I donât mean that weâve all aged a year (and Iâd thank you for not pointing that out.) I mean weâve had the joy of welcoming a bunch of new Gurus in the last 12 months.Â
For some of them, it was their first time meeting their peers IRL, which made it extra special, even by usual Guru Gathering standards.

A warm welcome was received by all, both on paper and in person
After clocking some serious mileage en route â 1,820 mi (2,935 km) for some â refueling was essential.Â
Our first team meal was a spread of Moroccan delicacies that put the âspectacleâ in âspectacular.â Dinner with a show is pretty much a Gathering tradition, and this year was no exception.Â
I challenge you to find another team retreat that comes with candle-balancing belly dancers⊠Or another use of that sentence in recorded history.Â
Anyway, after all that excitement and some minor jetlag, the team turned in for the night.
Day 2 – Slideshows and system prompts
Another Guru Gathering tradition is kicking off day two with presentations. Sounds stuffy, but the title slides prove otherwise:Â

Business Ops & Compliance, we salute you
Our founders, Andrew and Percy, kick off the presentations, followed by department leads. And, I donât know about you, but I think our 6-minute slots are *chefâs kiss*.Â
Our take on presentations is always so smooth because each one is tight, and has a specific purpose: reflect on wins and where thereâs room for improvement, and set the scene for next yearâs plans and priorities.
Given weâre a software company in 2026, no prizes for guessing that AI was a hot topic among the presenters.Â

Our CTO, Kevin, stopping the robots from giving us existential crises
We see AI as a huge opportunity. Weâre a lean team with massive ambition and talent, and AI amplifies both.Â
You can see our first foray into AI in our MCP server, but thatâs just the tip of the iceberg.Â
Case in point: after the presentations, we split into small groups to build a new AI agent each, with our most seasoned practitioners helping where needed.Â
After wrangling the robots, it was tea time, featuring traditional Moroccan mint. Refreshed, the team then demoed what theyâd built.Â
They also shared plans to tighten up and deploy the workflows after the Gathering, making our lives easier and freeing up time for new projects.Â
âItâs amazing how much progress we can make in just a few hours when we stay curious, share ideas and work together.
The AI workshop showed how powerful it can be to learn from one another and turn new possibilities into real action. Now, we can take that energy back to our everyday work and create a lasting impact.â
â Chris, our Senior Performance and Growth Marketing Manager
After all that hard work, it was time for a delicious dinner, some well-earned drinks, and another sweet surprise.Â

Happy belated birthday to our Senior Product Manager, Anton
After a sensible number of cocktails and glasses of wine, the night wound down, and the team rested up ahead of the last full day of Guru Gathering 2026.
Day 3 – Sailing the skies and supper at sunset
How does that saying go? âThe early bird catches theâŠâ hot air balloon ride? Well, that was fitting on day 3, at least. Some brave souls got up at 4am to soar over the desert.Â

Hot air ballooning is the only activity that makes you this happy at that hour of the morning
Here’s what one of them had to say about the experience:
“It was like a dream, especially with all the other balloons floating around you and the view of the mountains in the distance with so many spectacular textures and colors.”
â Dana, our Senior Customer Support Specialist
The rest of the team got a lie-in, then tried their hand at Moroccan-style cooking later in the morning.Â

Apologies for the paper towels trying to steal the spotlight
Here’s how the alternative morning activity went down:
“We were amazed by the speed of our cooking class instructor. She handled slippery tomato peeling and chopping much faster than the rest of us! Nothing went on fire, but we were definitely on fire trying to keep up!”
â Greta, our Senior Product Marketing Manager
Free time followed to explore Marrakesh before the team reconvened for a final meal to mark the end of the Gathering. Tagines abounded, but the most interesting thing on the menu was probably the fire.

Wonder where that sits on the Scoville scale
To top it off, the team was treated to a bucket-list-worthy view of camels crossing the desert at sunset until, inevitably, our Gurus headed back to the fabulous hotel for a final good nightâs sleep.

Could be dromedaries actually. Hard to tell from this distance
Day 4 – A fond farewell
You can always feel the âI donât want to go home yet!â energy on the departures day of the Guru Gathering. In Morocco, that even included one of our QA analysts who has a fear of snakes. Not ideal given the location! đ±
Weâre a tight-knit team and this yearly opportunity to catch up and collaborate always leaves us counting down the days until the next one. It feels bittersweet when itâs over, but this yearâs Gathering closed with a clear plan for the year ahead, new AI agents to build on, and a team that feels closer than ever.
Whatâs next for Team Guru?
You tell me.Â
No, genuinely.Â
If you use our software, you can always ask for new features on our product portal. Our team reviews and prioritizes based on these requests all the time. Itâs not just a suggestion box.Â
The non-facetious answer is that the teamâs re-energized and full of fresh ideas to make our customers even happier in the coming year.Â
Iâve been on Team Guru for a while now and say this after every Gathering, but I mean it every time.Â
Iâve never worked anywhere where people pour so much energy into making the product the best it can be, care into mastering their craft, and effort into being open and inclusive with each other. Thatâs what makes the other 361 days of being a Guru as magical as an exotic few days away with your work pals.
